About This Role
The Control Systems Technical Specialist II is a member of the global Fixed Plant Control (FPC) systems team and is responsible for maintaining and improving the availability and integrity of the site Industrial Control System (ICS) infrastructure for a single site.
The incumbent: provides technical expertise and support for all Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) & Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) hardware, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance and upgrades.
provides technical expertise and support for all Industrial Control System (ICS) networking, telemetry, and all site Operations Technology (OT) infrastructure including the PI Historian suite of applications.
provides support to control room/operations, metallurgists, maintenance, engineering, and projects departments to safely maximize production capacity across both processing and mining facilities.
collaborates with control system vendors to manage minor upgrades, patching and incorporate new products reliably into the site Industrial Control System (ICS).
performs any preventative or corrective maintenance required on the ICS infrastructure. The incumbent is also required to continuously develop and improve the site maintenance procedures to maximize the availability of the site Industrial Control System (ICS).
utilizes Newmont standard Industrial Control System (ICS) applications for alarm and controller performance, downtime reporting, electronic shift logging to improve system performance.
implements change requests and project support, adhering to existing site configuration standards and change management (MOC) processes.
has sufficient experience in mineral processing and mining facilities to understand and manage the risks associated with any temporary or permanent changes to the site industrial control system.
participates in the global Fixed Plant Control (FPC) system community of practice sharing lessons learned and best practices; and is required to recognize and replicate where appropriate best-practice solutions provided by the global Fixed Plant Control (FPC) system community.
In This Role You Will
Monitor the site Industrial Control System (ICS) infrastructure status and resolve any issues identified.
Implement minor temporary and permanent change requests to Industrial Control System (ICS) software/application.
Execute and/or support projects impacting on site Industrial Control System (ICS).
Lead daily Industrial Control System (ICS) pre-start meetings and checks and respond to key metrics including alarm rates & controller performance.
Participate in site operations and maintenance pre-start and handover meetings, remaining informed of site priorities, issues and initiatives.
Assist with diagnosis and resolution of operations and maintenance issues related to the Industrial Control System (ICS).
Perform internal auditing and preventative maintenance, minor upgrades and validation of spares for ICS infrastructure.
Support the site OT infrastructure and applications, including the PI Historian suite.
Participation in the global process control community.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
Electrical and/or instrumentation trade certificate is essential.
Additional qualifications in process control or control systems desirable.
Experience
At least 7 years of experience working with control systems in any related industry.
Significant and demonstrable experience in at least one of the following systems:
Yokogawa Centum VP DCS.
Rockwell Control / Compact Logix PLCs.
Schneider Modicon PLCs.
Citect SCADA HMI systems.
Knowledge and understanding of OsiSoft PI application suite desirable.
Significant exposure and understanding of industrial Ethernet networks.
Knowledge of industry best practices for industrial control systems.
Skills And Abilities
Advanced PC skills and computer literacy.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
High attention to detail and effective communication.
Ability to work effectively with site and broader control system teams.

The Position is located at the Ahafo North mine site.
