About This Role
Per the Minerals Commission regulations on Local content, this role is reserved for Ghanaians.
The Enterprise Social Performance team establishes the overall discipline strategy, approach and guidelines pertaining to local and municipal government, local and mining community matters such as resettlement, local procurement, and impact of changing legislation. In some jurisdictions social performance issues become a flashpoint attracting the attention of Governments, NGOs and investors requiring substantial business attention to satisfy the many stakeholders.
Develop and implement the Business Unit social performance strategy and plans, to deliver commitments and address risks.
Your role will consist of
Growth Strategy/Governance
Design the strategy and programs for the BU and sites related to host and indigenous communities, including local/municipal/provincial level government, and traditional authorities, aligned to the enterprise social performance strategy.
Support the BU and site Social Performance/Sustainability teams to develop plans and actions that enable the continuation of social license to operate, through effective host community and Indigenous relationship management, value creation and impact management.
Support site Social Performance/Sustainability teams to develop effective partnerships and build sustainable processes for enduring relationships with Newmont and host and Indigenous communities.
Support site Social Performance teams to effectively manage human rights risks, including overseeing cross-functional human rights working groups, developing and implementing human rights management plans, and partnering with Supply Chain to implement supplier human rights mitigation plans.
Partner with the People and Supply Chain functions, to develop approaches and plans that create value and opportunities through local employment, procurement and contract opportunities.
Support site Social Performance/Sustainability teams to develop targeted community investment plans aligned with Newmont’s Standards and guidelines.
Develop effective partnerships with decision makers, building sustainable processes so that when an individual leaves the partnership continues.
Monitor external and internal environment to identify gaps, exposures and opportunities for improvement and growth.
Support site Social Performance/Sustainability teams to monitor and manage social impacts.
Leverage enterprise functional standards, systems, processes, and tools to support the BU and sites’ social performance outcomes.
Support the S & S Governance team to monitor, analyze potential impact, and report on internal, external, and country legislative trends.
Develop an ASM strategy for the BU and support the site Social performance / Sustainability team to implement ASM strategy and programs to minimize the negative impact of ASM on operations.
Operations Excellence
Support BU and site leaders in shaping and meeting their annual social performance targets.
Partner with Enterprise and BU People to build local/Indigenous employment programs that include targets, integrated reporting, and programs to develop knowledge and skills.
Monitor social and human rights impacts and support the BU MD, site GM and site Social Performance/Sustainability teams to solve social performance issues that could impact operational performance and growth.
Respond to the local operational environment and risks and embed social performance into operational performance.
Safety & Sustainability
Develop action plans that account for and incorporate Company safety and sustainability policies.
Manage the improvement activities associated with risk.
Support external reporting – like Annual Sustainability Report, DJSI, Corporate Human Rights Benchmark.
People
Set performance expectations for direct team and provide feedback and coaching as appropriate.
Commercial
Develop and manage the Business Unit social performance budget.
Your knowledge, training and skills checklist
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in developing and executing community stakeholder management strategies and plans to enhance company reputation, social license to operate and support growth.
Advanced proficiency in supporting local economic development actions such as local / indigenous careers and procurement, and skill development programs.
Advanced in developing Community based risk assessments.
Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree, social sciences, or related discipline.
Legislation and global principles/requirements such as Human Rights and Voluntary Principles and their application.
Mining operating environments and risks.
Other Requirements
Proficiency in the English language; ability to speak a second language is an asset.
Travel to sites or business unit offices (domestic and international) may be required.
