SHIFT CHARGE ENGINEER – GAS PROCESSING (Cryogenic and Fractionation Module)

Subsidiary: Genser Energy Ghana Limited (GEGL)

Designation Level: Sectional Head

Location: Prestea, Western Region, Ghana

Reports to: Operations Superintendent – Gas Processing

OBJECTIVE: The Shift Charge Engineer for processing will be responsible for maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operations of the gas conditioning plant by optimizing diverse processes to facilitate the proper production of natural gas liquids while ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental responsibility, and operational efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

ENGINEERING, PROCUREMENT & CONSTRUCTION (EPC)

• Assist the EPC Project Team during the Construction, Installation, and Commissioning Phase:

o Provide support with the review of Authorized for Construction drawings (AFCs), P&IDs, and commissioning checklists for the gas conditioning plant.

o Provide support with the review of all Red Lines and As Built Drawings to confirm accuracy and compliance with original designs and modifications.

o Assess the operational performance and integrity of equipment and other machinery such as the pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, towers, valves, etc.

o Support in the development of project specifications, cost estimates, and schedules for process-related activities.

o Conduct technical studies and analysis to troubleshoot process issues and propose solutions during construction and after commissioning.

o Assist in supervising and completing installation tasks during the construction phase, while ensuring adherence to industry regulations and company policies.

o Conduct simulations and modeling to optimize process parameters, equipment sizing, and performance.

o Propose recommendations to the HSE team to develop strategies to improve health, safety, and environmental standards at all production systems.

o Provide support with ensuring that warranty and punch list issues are effectively managed during construction and after commissioning of the plant.

o Provide support with ensuring adherence with quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) standards.

OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE (OM)

• Assist the Operations Superintendent with the resolution of technical and operational issues:

o Investigation of operational incidents and development of corrective and preventive actions.

o Ensure that all issues and incidents are reported, investigated, and documented.

o Log all relevant information into the CMMS.

• Monitor and control the gas processing plant via the DCS (Distributed Control System):

o Ensure optimal operation of fractionation columns, cryogenic heat exchangers, compressors, and reboilers.

o Adjust control parameters such as temperature, pressure, and flow rates to maintain separation efficiency.

o Respond to alarms, troubleshoot deviations, and make process adjustments as needed.

• Ensure the proper functioning of the cryogenic fractionation system:

o Monitor reflux ratios, column pressure, and tray performance in demethanizers, deethanizers, depropanizer and debutanizers.

o Optimize cryogenic heat exchanger performance and troubleshoot cold box issues.

• Coordinate plant startup, shutdown, and emergency shutdown (ESD) procedures:

o Execute planned shutdowns for maintenance or process upsets.

o Perform depressurization, nitrogen purging, and de-inventorying of process lines.

o Ensure safe plant ramp-up following downtime.

• Perform control room operations with regards to switching and isolation processes.

• Conduct routine field rounds and inspections of rotating and static equipment:

o Check for abnormal vibrations, temperature fluctuations, and pressure drops.

o Monitor performance of cryogenic pumps, compressors, and turbo expanders.

• Assist in compressor performance monitoring and troubleshooting:

o Ensure proper anti-surge control settings.

o Analyze compressor efficiency and energy consumption trends.

• Support and comply with all process safety management and risk management plan practices (EIS, PSM, MOC, etc.):

o Keep plant hazard analysis current and display thorough knowledge of possible hazards and associated safeguards.

o Maintain required regulatory documentation.

o Work to achieve our goal of “Zero Accidents”.

• Support the Reliability Team in implementing predictive and preventive maintenance strategies:

o Utilize vibration analysis, infrared thermography, and oil condition monitoring.

o Assist in turnaround planning and execution.

• Maintain an accurate record of process data, equipment performance, and maintenance activities.

• Participate in hazard and risk assessments, including HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) reviews.

• Ensure compliance with operational safety and environmental regulations:

o Follow Process Safety Management (PSM), Management of Change (MOC), and Emergency Incident System (EIS) protocols.

o Maintain proper flare system operation and optimize flare minimization strategies.

• Perform equipment isolations and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) for maintenance activities.

• Execute gas leak detection and monitoring of VOC emissions to ensure compliance.

• For all activities that require a permit to work, prepare the supporting documentation.

• Maintain accurate operational logs, process trends, and shift handover reports.

• Assist in root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures or process deviations.

• Ensure all incidents, near misses, and process upsets are properly logged and investigated.

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

• Supervise the team to execute assigned projects within deadlines and budget.

• Develop and implement necessary measures to ensure flexible work practice and team building.

• Carry out performance appraisals and development plans with subordinate staff.

• Implement training and development program for staff in line with the organization’s technical and business needs.

• Coordinate the rotational schedule (on and off duty) of subordinate staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Process, Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Petrochemical Engineering or other related engineering disciplines is mandatory.

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Business or Management is a plus.

• Multicultural experience is mandatory.

• Proficiency in French is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

• A minimum of 4+ years of experience and competence in a similar role, with demonstrated competence in the oil and gas midstream and downstream sectors, specifically in gas conditioning, processing, cryogenic storage plant operations, and distribution management.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

• Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants, including Process Safety Management, OSHA regulations, EPA regulations, EEOC guidelines, and other federal and local requirements.

• Familiarity with Instrumentation and Industrial Automation, Supervision Systems (SCADA and HMI), PLC-PAC programming, and industrial networks.

• Full understanding of the best global practices and value chain function in the oil & gas sector.
