FOREST RANGER / ECO TOUR GUIDE

Invitation to tour the forest, perform a task and meet the CEO You will travel along with other members of staff and return at your own expense.
Final interview.
This is full time on site in Bedum.

Who We’re Looking For:

We are looking for someone who isn’t deterred being outdoors in all weather increments. A candidate who feels at home sleeping in a tent, and patrolling our 207 acre forest. An individual with a friendly disposition with a can do attitude able to communicate with a diverse range of people. A person eager to learn the layout of our forest in order to share their knowledge with visitors.

You must be self-motivated and capable to devise a solid programme that includes; (but not limited to) security, mapping, animal sights, and hiking trails, from scratch.

Portal Forest Estates is located in an area of natural beauty in the Central Region, with opportunities for adventure, camping, trail hiking and learning about the local wildlife.

The Role

A Forest Range at Portal Forest Estates helps in preserving our 207 acres. The successful candidate will be responsible for safeguarding, protecting and supervising the forest. Maintain a high vigilance to keep everyone safe from threats. If you have a passion about conserving our nation’s forests, about hiking and giving eco-tours to Ghanians, Africans and those from outside our wonderful continent then think about becoming a Forest Ranger with Portal Forest Estates. We require that you have a minimum of one year experience in this field.

Key Responsibilities

Provide support in all forest management activities including law enforcement, ground, and border patrol.
Assist in the maintenance and control of all forest assets, equipment and physical infrastructure and ensure that management procedures and requirements are effectively communicated, demonstrated and applied by staff at Portal Forest Estates.
Coordinate training programmes for subordinates.
Liaise with the local community.
Plan structured activities for eco-tours, ie Hiking, Camping, night hiking, bird watching, etc.
Prevent illegal hunting and poaching in the forest.
Reduce instances of trespassing,vandalism and solicitation.
Prohibit access to the fragile ecosystem of any part of the forest.
With help from the management team, produce a Forest Ranger Manual that includes do’s and don’ts.
Provide inputs for the production of work plans to assist in providing liaison between the Wildlife Division and Traditional Authorities, District Assemblies and relevant stakeholders.

Desired Qualification

A minimum of first degree in Natural Resource Management (Wildlife Option) or related discipline.
Experience in forestry, hiking tours, and wildlife.

Work Experience

3 A minimum of one (1) year’s experience as either a Forest Ranger or Eco Tourist guide. .
4. Must have completed one (1) year National Service
At Portal Forest Estates we conduct a quarterly review of your work performance. You are on probation for the f (3) months. If you are satisfactory you are placed on a quarterly review until

Salary Range:

Junior Ranger (You must have passed training): Ghc1’200- 1’500
Trainee Rangers: Ghc 800
